God wants to be known

Ever since I first became a Christian, I've wanted to witness to others. Yet, I've never found the courage to do so. I think I have finally realized why that is. It's not because I used to be a shy person. No, God can use anyone. It's because I don't fully know God. Like Francis
Schaeffer says, I believe that Christians "see the world in bits and pieces." I have to take those little bits of revelation about God, that I learn from the Bible, from other Christians, and from spending time with God, and ask Him to help me piece them together to make a

The Man in the Moon

I need to pluck you out of the sky
Hold you tight in my hand
Slide you into my pocket
When fear and loneliness come
I could pull you out
See your peaceful face
Feel your cool breath
Find safety in your gaze

Christmas

Some people know me as the guy who hates Christmas. This is probably an assumption made upon hearing me say things like, “I hate Christmas,” or “Christmas is for babies,” or “Christmas is for dummies.” The truth is that I love Christmas. As a religious observance, it’s beautiful. Christmas hymns often make me cry, and there’s nothing sweeter than the overwhelming love of God, realized and celebrated during the advent season.

Life from a Distance

Zombies. The thing about them is this: they look alive, because they’re moving and stuff, but they’re actually dead. You can tell they’re dead by their decaying flesh; it’s gross. This looking alive but being dead can be confusing. Think about any zombie movie you’ve seen (if you’ve seen any). Doesn’t it always start out with some overly naïve person thinking that a friend or loved one is approaching them?

Coming of Age

I love good “coming of age” stories. They’re so messy and unglamorous that identifying with them is a cinch. Well, at least for me.

When I look back on my spiritual past, it looks a lot like a coming of age story. That is to say, it’s a wreck. It started out with God being my personal Accountant. He would write down the things I got right versus the things I got wrong…and it was very nerve wracking to think that I may have forgotten to ask forgiveness for one small debt and that I would be barred from Heaven for muttering a “stupid-head” at my sister.

Love God and Believe

There are times in life when I finally get to "the other side" of something. For example: raising children. My wife and I are not done, but we are pretty far along. Recently I have had numerous occasions to see the fruit of our labor and watch some wonderful things take place and develop in our family. Having 6 children in the space of 8 years, we know what it is like to have our hands full in the child-raising department.

God Is Good

My brief stint in Norway 6 years ago was amazing. I learned so much about who God is and what he can do. What I didn’t expect was to receive an answer for some of the biggest desires of my heart. In our Bible School we practiced prophesying. Our class prayed for each other and gave words received. Most of them were encouragement or Scripture verses spoken just for us. We were instructed to write down our words and give them to our classmate when we were finished. I look at those pieces of paper now and I am in awe of the ones I received. Six years sound long but it feels short.
